Do We Really Need Separate Appreciation Days for Principals and Vice Principals?

In this video, Dr. Justin Baeder discusses the proliferation of appreciation days in education and whether having separate days for every role has gotten a bit ridiculous.

Key Takeaways

  • Appreciation day overload is real - Managing multiple appreciation days throughout the year becomes a logistical burden
  • Genuine appreciation matters more than calendar dates - A sincere thank-you any day of the year means more than an obligatory gesture on a designated day
  • Keep it simple - One well-executed appreciation effort is better than a dozen half-hearted ones

Transcript

This is probably not a popular opinion, but I think we have too many appreciation days.

We've got principal appreciation, teacher appreciation, custodian appreciation, school secretary appreciation, psychologist appreciation, substitute appreciation.

This is too much.

Let's just have staff appreciation one day or one week and be all happy with it.

If we try to break it up and honor each individual job category separately, somebody's going to get left out.

Somebody's going to be disappointed.
